ORIGINAL PHOTOS FROM READER DEAREST EXHIBITION AT ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY 1991-1992
Installation Photograph from
Helter Skelter: L.A.Art in the 1990’s (January 26 - April 26, 1992)
The exhibition opened around the same time as the Helter Skelter show at MOCA and remained on view throughout April 1992. After the MOCA exhibition concluded, a significant number of works were transferred to ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY. The original show was then deinstalled and reinstalled at ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY, where a substantial number of pieces were sold. Several works by Raymond—both from the original show and from those previously exhibited at MOCA—were acquired by Robert Berman.
Few of the works by Raymond Pettibon that were featured in Helter Skelter: L.A. Art in the 1990’s later traveled internationally, being included in exhibitions at museums and galleries around the world.
Organized by MOCA Chief Curator Paul Schimmel, the exhibition includes work by Chris Burden, Meg Cranston, Llyn Foulkes, Victor Estrada, Richard Jackson, Mike Kelley, Liz Larner, Paul McCarthy, Manuel Ocampo, Raymond Pettibon, Lari Pittman, Charles Ray, Nancy Rubins, Jim Shaw, Megan Williams, and Robert Williams. A fully illustrated publication unites the art with fiction and poetry by Los Angeles-based writers Charles Bukowski, Michelle T. Clinton, Dennis Cooper, Harry Gamboa, Jr., Amy Gerstler, Jim Krusoe, Bia Lowe, Rita Valencia, Helena Maria Viramontes, and Benjamin Weissman.
